I would begin with The Power of Kindness: The Unexpected Benefits of Leading a Compassionate Life by Piero Ferrucci. I love this book and have read it over and over again. It explores kindness as the most important human value and how those who practice it can lead a fulfilling lives. There is nothing more powerful than kindness.
I recently went to the Food Show in Washington, DC and had the opportunity to hear Michael Symon speak. He was awesome! What I loved most about him is that he gets that we all have busy lives and don’t have time to cook elaborate meals. But we DO want to cook our own meals because we know it’s healthier. SO I love his cookbook 5 in 5 which is filled with healthy recipes with 5 ingredients ready in 5 minutes. The brussels sprouts salad made with Pecorino cheese is amazing!! Michael Symon’s 5 in 5: 5 Fresh Ingredients + 5 Minutes = 120 Fantastic Dinners.
I am a neat freak and so I loved The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. When my living space is cluttered, my mind is cluttered, and I am unable to concentrate on anything else. When things are tidy and in their place, life sails. I can’t wait to read her latest book, Spark Joy: An Illustrated Master Class on the Art of Organizing and Tidying Up.
I love Big Girl: How I Gave Up Dieting and Got a Life by Kelsey Miller because I could have written it! It is brutally honest and hilariously funny and is ultimately about rising above the insane attitudes of our culture and body image, and learning the importance of a healthy mind, a healthy body and a healthy spirit. I wish I’d learned these lessons a lot earlier!
And finally, I loved the novel Me Before You by JoJo Meyers. It’s a beautiful and charming love story that makes you laugh and cry all at the same time. It’s a reminder that life is about love and relationships and we must live in the moment. The book was wonderful and surprisingly the movie is almost just as good. Bring your kleenex!
