The World and the Country We Live in Today

“The world we live in, and I think this is as true today as ever, is dominated by a thought system which posits us as separate from one another, posits us as separate from any higher power or God of our understanding and within that delusional frame of mind. Thinking that we're here to compete with one another rather than love one another, to judge one another rather than love one another, to fear one another rather than love one another.

I think the average American is a very decent person. And my experience, I believe. That Americans have an instinctive understanding that this country matters.”

How does politics become more humble and compassionate? How can we make a change?

“Well, I think that the personality of the president makes a lot of difference. As long as you have a president who seeks, in their character, to aspire to the better angels of our nature - then we can go to the left or we can go to the right. But there are guardrails of decency and when you have a character of a president who does not align with basic issues of human decency, then those guardrails fall and all hell breaks loose.”

How do you stay healthy doing your rigorous schedule?

“I do believe that my spiritual life, prayer, meditation, doing my best to be the woman that I feel that God would have me be, is the greatest contributor to my health. I seek to eat well. I do yoga. We're at an age where it's not just cosmetic. I used to watch my diet so that I'd look a certain way. Now I watch my diet so that I'll live.”
