5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Grounding Technique

Day-to-day life can get us caught in a never ending cycle of anxiety and overwhelm that steals our abilities to enjoy simple things in life. To counter feelings of overwhelming anxiety or physical reactions to stress, our BB&R team turns to the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 grounding technique. This technique forces us to find ourselves in the moment, in a world beyond ourselves. Next time your busy mind takes control, give this technique a try. If it is a nice day outside, get out and try this technique on a walk. If not, you can always do it inside.

Here is how it goes:

Find five things you can see, four things you can touch, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste.

Springtime is a beautiful time for this practice. Take a moment to see, touch, hear, smell, and taste the color and beauty of the season!
